06:06 pm - WPC WTF?
Is it just me or has the WPC online qualifying test site gone down just the minute when the password is scheduled to be released?

Hey ho, had to happen one of these years and us hitting F5 every five seconds cannot help.

I will be much cheered if figuring out the password turns out to be the first puzzle, which I have flunked - which we have might all have flunked.

While I'm waiting, and while I remember; Londoners, Uncle Roy All Around You. This week. Wednesday to Sunday. Yes.
Current Mood: baby I'm ready to go
Current Music: me smashing the refresh buttons

Password posted at c. 1812. Printing now. Of course, my printer needs to warm up again.

SIXTEEN MINUTES!!! ARGH!

And now it won't take my answers. Says it's too busy. They must really be slashdotted.

Keep trying to submit. I reckon they're going to be lenient about the times here.

I nearly managed to get the Minesweeper Path one during the 16 minutes of overtime, but got stuck. Not going to do it now and even if I did then the paper is identifiably late.

I think they've been 2-3 minutes out all day - or maybe it's my PC that's out?

Yeah, they seemed about three minutes fast to me. I have my clock synched to the US Naval Observatory, so it should be correct.

Well, that was a bit awkward, wasn't it?

I reckon I've scored 145 or 150 - however, if I'd had the full 150 minutes it'd be 170 and I refuse to go over on time.

Very very pleased. Result! :-)

I just NOW got my answers to accept. So I will probably get a late penalty, even though I've been trying since 2:25 p.m. CDT. Grr, argh.

I did terrible. If I got all the answers I submitted correct, then I will have 60 points. Really was hoping to do better than that. Grr, argh.

I wouldn't worry too much about the late entry. They know what it was like for everyone.

I got 45 (55?) in my first year of the qualification test and that was enough to get me to Stamford, CT. Admittedly this was for the UK team when there were only six UK entrants, but sometimes low scores can do surprisingly well. On top of that, I reckon they really ratcheted the difficulty up a notch on some of the old favourites compared to what people are used to.

I'd rather not have a post mortem until the official answers come out, on second thoughts.

Seems fair. My gut feeling is that there will be very high scores from that test, although I might have done well on a "not that bothered and therefore pretty relaxed about the whole affair" basis.

Shall we begin?

Or, alternatively, shall we not bother? :-)

I think I got all the ones I submitted right, about which I am happy, but they might possibly knock marks off for not getting the formatting exactly correct.

Still not sure how the bonus points work.

100% ditto your first sentence.

It's not clear, is it? I suspect the bonuses might be for the first person to submit the correct answer in each case, but there's no telling.

I think I'm claiming a, let me see... 120. (I think. Might be 110 or 115 - I don't really understand the bonuses.) Didn't manage to get anything extra done during the last 12/13/16 minutes, as discussed above, but did at least come close. It was certainly fun!

Excellent skills, sir! *doffs cap*

The post-mortem begins here. Probably.

While I'm waiting, and while I remember; Londoners, Uncle Roy All Around You. This week.

Wednesday to Sunday Saturday.

I never was very good at telling Sunday from Saturday, but there's no reason why you should miss out on what might be quite a remarkable game indeed because I got my days of the week wrong again. It's also on tomorrow if you're at a loose end. Sunday 1st June good; Sunday 8th June bad.

Yes.

Yes.
