Not much going on
Am posting from the cybercafé in town. This little PC has Windows XP installed on it, which is the first time I've ever used it. Nice-looking, at least.
PC has gone to repair shop now. No idea if the repair shop is any good or not, but at least it's local and it claims to be very cheap. I managed to get the last bit of probably-important information off it before I went. Strangely, it seemed to be the case that the harder you push the power button or the reset button the more likely the PC was to boot, so I ended up jabbing the reset button with a pen and pushing it right inside the case. Whoops.
My home ISP, Demon Internet, are being very flaky indeed at the moment - even their webmail service is unreliable from here. The modem on the backup computer claims to be a 56k but in practice things are between one eighth and one quarter as quick as they were with my 64k ISDN connection. Hey ho. Will catch up on some tidying-up if I find the motivation and do some (offline) reading in the interim. Most of the useful things I could do are firmly on my PC, though; while I have backups, I don't fancy my chances of reinstalling them on the slow backup PC...
Thinking of you all! :-)
